Developing Responsibility

Prefects

• At Horton Grange we believe that our prefects have a very important role to play in our school.

• Only year six pupils are allowed to apply for this position, so it is considered to be very prestigious.

• Being a prefect allows pupils to make a positive contribution to school life and demonstrate their ability to take responsibility. It also enables the younger children to learn from an exceptional role model.

• Prefects are allocated their roles.

The Selection Process

Pupils who want to be prefects are required to put themselves forward. Another pupil has to show that they agree with them being a suitable prefect by supporting or ‘seconding’ the application. Year 5 and 6 pupils then vote for their first and second choice of prefect.

A Head Boy and Head Girl, who clearly demonstrate Horton Grange’s high expectations at all times, are selected by staff.
